It’s not just the poor girls in k dramas that have the latest cellphone, even the modern mermaid is jacked in to the latest tech.
Ha, this drama. Surplus Princess, aka, The Mermaid, is a quirky little thing that could slide into wtf land real quick. It’s a low budget special effects fantasy once a week drama, think a bit H2O Just Add Water, channeling The Little Mermaid, with a touch of Korean sitcom. It throws in some silly parody unexpectedly, such as a Terminator reference. I’m kind of done with the gross over use of The Little Mermaid self sacrifice dissipate into bubbles (which is I am assuming is the Korean interpretation of the original story in that TLM turns into sea foam). Other than that, it looks flufftastic, quirky, funny, and I’m totally okay with that. it reminds me a bit of Let’s Eat and Flower Boy Next Door-I think it’s going to be a small drama with a small world for it’s cast. Totally okay with that too. The heroine is a hot blooded mermaid and knows what she likes. Gotta love that.
And bonus points, Song Jae-rim’s assets in the first five minutes. Should I mention a snog reference within the first 10 minutes?
