To Liebster…or Not, it’s all Good

As many bloggers have  seen, the Liebster “Award”  is making it’s rounds.  Again.

As I keep getting notices week after week, I thought I’d share some information.   What is the Leibster Award?  It’s a chain letter basically with survey questions.   Someone randomly initiates it and it just makes the rounds.   There is no award home web site, no nomination process, no selection process, no award distribution.  If you participate, you send “award nominations” to 10 other bloggers, and so on and so on and so on, until it dies, and then someone sees the “award” graphic on someones blog, or sees a notice they missed,  and it starts all over again.  Usually, once or twice a year it makes a round.  Feel free to google, the origins are murky, but the most information I’ve seen goes back to 2009-2010 and those rules say it was “for bloggers under 3000 followers.”  Now it makes the rounds saying “for bloggers under 200 followers.”  I’m pretty sure that it’s been floating around longer.  It used to be that many people had their own little  webpages instead of blog sites, and I think I recall seeing this Liebster thing in the 2002-2004 time range going around to websites.

So basically, someone gets comments and emails from bloggers that says “Hey I nominated you for this award,”   then the person decides to participates, and looks for other bloggers with less that 200 followers to send it to.  If you like participating in answering random questions and creating a list of random questions, and creating a blog post about your questions,  and have the time to do it, then you’ll enjoy the q & a stuff, but don’t stress over it, lol.  It’s simply a chain letter, or even we might consider it a meme.
